WELCOME TO CONTINUDRUM.COM
Continudrums are inspired by and adapted from wooden box drums, now known as Cajon drums, which were originally created by African slaves in the America's.
Unable to have traditional drums, slaves in Cuba played small cabinets, after removing the drawers. Slaves in Peru used codfish boxes as drums. There is evidence of other cultures in climates of damp and/or highly changeable conditions also using all wood drums. Remains of wood drums have been found next to musical harps in burial sites in Northern European coastal areas. Other names for these drums include the Viking drum, sailors drum. and bog drum.
Unlike drumheads of skin, wood top drums are water resistant, and will not streatch, puncture or rip. These drums are individuallly handcrafted in the Missouri Ozarks, and are designed to be lightweight and personally sized, with tons of sound. The wood playing surface provides an excellent response with anarray of rich, warm tones. The tones and pitches are not affected by changes in temperature and humidity. They are ALWAYS in tune.
